Tehva Kastel Riggan - Know Your Rights

Laura Montagna October 16, 2013 Speakers

Two summers ago while attending California Teen Court Summit I took a workshop that changed my life.  The workshop was called “Know Your Rights.” During this workshop I realized how few of my rights I knew. The government is a powerful force and being a minor you are left with even less power. The one

Laura Montagna October 15, 2013 Speakers

The inspiration for my topic comes from where I live. Humboldt County is well known for its large number of people who grow marijuana. There’s even a movie and an article in the New York Times about it. I grew up in Humboldt County, specifically Kneeland, where at least half the houses are grow houses.

Mary Ann Loch - Kids These Days

The first TED talk I saw was Sir Ken Robinson’s How Schools Kill Creativity.  I was instantly addicted to this phenomenon of TED and quickly fell down the rabbit hole.  I was continuously inspired, informed, and my mind opened.   I enjoy using certain TED Talks in my classroom where I teach junior high English.  The

Laura Montagna October 11, 2013 Speakers 1 Comment

I was sitting on my couch crying. Teaching is hard. I wasn’t sure I could muster up the magic inside me for another year and school was beginning in a matter of days. My phone rang. I tore off another piece of toilet paper from the roll in my lap, blew my nose, took a deep breath,

“Weird is awesome!” My Friends and I are always saying this. We are kind of like crusaders for crazy uniqueness because we are the group that stands out and is a considered to be more than a little weird. We like things that no one really knows about. That is why this subject is so

    • What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@HumboldtBay, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouth@HumboldtBay event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
